Camping
Americans are in love with camping.
In fact, around 46 million people go camping every year in the US.
There’s nothing better than getting in touch with nature and enjoying the great outdoors. However, it does have its difficulties.
Tackling tents, insects, weather, and food can all make camping a little less relaxing than it should be. These things don’t have to get in the way of fun and relaxation though.
Use our camping hacks to make your next trip much easier.
5 of Our Best Camping Hacks
Try these genius camping ideas and make camping a breeze.
1. Make a Water Lantern
A lantern is one of the most important pieces of camping equipment to pack.
Since many of them can be a bit too bright, you’ll also need a softer, less intense light source, especially just before you go to sleep.
You don’t have to go out and buy a different kind of lantern. All you need is a gallon of water (the kind that comes in a clear plastic container). Simply shine your flashlight or headlamp into the bottle. As the light shines through the water, it will brighten up your tent with a soft glow.
This way, you can switch on a light at night without having to wake up everyone else around you.
2. Use Mason Jars
Knowing what kind of food to pack for a camping trip can be difficult.
You’ll need different things for breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus snacks to keep you going throughout the day. If you don’t know how to prepare correctly, food can end up hogging most of your packing space.
That’s why mason jars are one of the best things to have with you and one of the camping hacks you should consider. They’re a convenient way to meal prep!
If you like scrambled eggs in the morning, crack all the eggs you’ll need into a mason jar and add anything else you like in your scramble, such as seasoning, chopped ham, or shredded cheese. For pancakes, prepare your batter at home in a jar, too. Simply pour them into a pan when it’s time to cook.
Salads are also easily stored in mason jars. First pour in a bit of salad dressing. Then add in chopped veggies like carrots, bell peppers, and cucumbers. Finally, top it off with your choice of lettuce (spinach holds up well). All you have to do is shake-shake-shake it when you’re ready to enjoy.
3. Bring Foam Floor Tiles
If you’re not staying in a cabin, sleeping outdoors can be uncomfortable.
To make things a little easier, bring along some foam floor tiles. You usually find them in children’s play areas or at gyms, but they’re great for camping, too.
Just lay them on the floor of your tent for a more comfortable sleep.
4. Make a Tick Deterrent
The last thing you want is to be bitten by ticks.
To avoid them, fill a spray bottle with 1 part tea tree oil and 2 parts water. If you spray it onto your shoes, socks, and clothes, you won’t have to worry as much about those nasty little insects.
5. Munch on Campfire Cones
For the perfect sweet campfire snack, bring some waffle cones.
Fill them with anything you like from chocolate chips and marshmallows to fruit. Then, wrap them in foil and put them on the campfire. In just a few minutes, they’ll become delicious, toasted, and melted treats.
