RV Park

As summer approaches and you have that perfect camping vacation on your mind, loading your whole family into your small RV may be adding a greenish tint to your daydream.

While many small RVs are designed to feel roomy, the truth is they can feel really small sometimes.

It can’t be all bad though, right? Small RV camping has increased during recent years, after all.

How to Organize Your Small RV

Even if your camping vehicle is small, you can maximize the space by utilizing a few simple tricks.

Read on for 5 great ideas to make your small camping RV feel bigger.

1. Creatively Utilize Cabinets

You’re probably familiar with using these spaces, but we’re taking a different spin on this. Consider the space you don’t usually use, such as the space beneath cabinets.

The underside of cabinets is the perfect place to store certain items, such as an under-cabinet paper plate dispenser or a magnetized cutting board. Under-shelf baskets work great here, too.

The outside and inside of cabinet doors can be utilized better as well. Consider adding an over-cabinet-door trash can instead of one that takes up floor space. It’s unused space after all, so use it!

2. Compact Wherever You Can

Many items have more compact designs these days. Look for these when buying or replacing items in your RV.

Features like small spice containers and collapsible, stackable dishes can save a huge amount of space.

Purchasing some hose reels to help organize hoses and cords can be helpful as well. Also, finding foldable things that can be tucked into smaller spaces will really go a long way.

3. Use Existing Storage Space More Efficiently

Your RV comes designed with space to store items, but it probably isn’t designed for efficient storage. Some simple additions can really help remedy this issue.

Add racks or lightweight shelves where you can to create more storage space. There’s no point in having only one shelf if you have room for three.

Insert tension rods as dividers to store flat items vertically instead of in a horizontal mess.

Smaller containers are better than big ones, especially if you don’t need much of an ingredient. Limit your food items to what you need, and use containers that match the appropriate amounts. Airtight containers are great for this and will help your food stay fresh longer.

Try using file folders for items in your pantry such as plastic wraps and zipping plastic bags. Doing so will eliminate clutter and the desire to just throw things back into cabinets after use.

4. Organize Your Loose Supplies

Caddies or containers work great for organizing supplies such as cleaners and scrubbers. These items tend to get thrown on or under counters and easily add to clutter. Organizing them will keep them cleaner and make your space feel roomier.

Create wall-mounted holders for storing toothbrushes and other toiletries. This will keep them clean and easier to find when needed.

5. Throw Items Out

One of the best things you can do to organize your small RV is to eliminate everything you don’t need. While this may seem hard at first, you’ll likely find a lot of unused items sitting around.

Broken parts, unneeded tools, old cleaners, expired food, and bedding you haven’t touched in years all need to go. With limited space, you can’t afford to have things you don’t need, so don’t keep them around.

Maximize Your Space

While many of today’s popular RVs are small, they don’t have to cramp your style. RV camping can still be fun and even luxurious, even in a small RV.

Taking only a few simple steps can really maximize the space in your RV. As you implement these ideas, you’ll love the added space you find, so get out there and enjoy your vehicle in all its glorious small-ness.
